Two of my photographic works have been selected for the group exhibition ‘This Place We Share‘, hosted at the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre from 11 September 2026 until 3 January 2027.

As part of my journey to hike the entire English coastline, I stayed in Cleethorpes for two weeks during the autumn of 2025, utilising the opportunity to complete a section stretching from Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire, across the Humber Bridge, to Withernsea in Yorkshire.

Whilst in North East Lincs, I captured two moments that will feature in the exhibition:

St Anthony’s Bank at night, Cleethorpes

Returning to my accommodation along the coastal path, I captured the contrast of a dramatic night with signage illuminated from my bike light at St Anthony’s Bank, emphasising the emptiness of that moment. Finding myself as a lone figure on the landscape prompted reflection on the solo nature of my endeavour. The light emanating solely from my position marked myself out in an unfamiliar space, an occurrence that often repeats itself as a Black figure in peri-urban and rural spaces.

I’m fascinated by the varied interactions between our built and natural environments. In this view from the Fuller Street bridge in Cleethorpes, we’re presented with a distinct hard border between the two, divided by the single-track railway line. Suburban residential terraces and the floodlights of Blundell Park give way to the green and yellow hue of grassland that leads towards the shoreline. In the distance, the industrial usage of our natural resources are visible in the warehouse buildings of the Grimsby Seafood Village.

The exhibition in the Muriel Barker Gallery is free to visit during the museum’s usual opening hours. It is being launched to coincide with Heritage Open Days 2026.
