‘Win’ film premiere at Curzon Hoxton, with Jordan Rowe, Steph Tari Odu, Martins Imhangbe, and Shaniqua Okwok on stage.

I hosted a Q&A panel as part of the premiere of Born By A River’s short film Win on Wednesday 1 October at the Curzon Hoxton in London.

The tender short stars Shaniqua Okwok (Small Axe) and Martins Imhangbe (Bridgerton), and is directed by Steph Tari Odu, with Oliver Ford as DOP. I was pleased to work as part of the production team and to provide operations, wellbeing and access support for the shoot.

Set in north Kent, Win follows Sascha (Okwok), a twenty-something athlete, as she returns to her family home and community following an injury, and confronts her father’s dementia. The film delicately speaks to Black women’s relationship to rest, catching our protagonist in a rare period of reflection. What emerges is a meditation on slowing down, care, and resilience across generations – a story about holding each other through change.

The evening will feature a poetry reading by Belinda Zhawi and an opportunity to hear directly about the process of shaping the work.

The film has been supported by BFI NETWORK.
