I was commissioned to write an essay and film an introduction for the (In)Visible Cities film season at Close Up Film Centre in November 2022.

Inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel of the same name, the season – curated by Massimo Iannetti (National Film and Television School) – was interested in exploring imagined and imaginary cities on screen, whilst providing a meditation on the relationship between city and storytelling.

Comprising a mix of features and short films, the programme was accompanied by a booklet containing the films’ synopsis, programming notes and commissioned written essays.

For this, I reflected upon the relationship between the season theme and the chosen film, Victoria (dir. Sofie Benoot, Liesbeth De Ceulaer, Isabelle Tollenaere, 2020) . I also recorded an introduction to the film that was screened before the feature on 19 November 2022.
